In 2011 I began to searching out and photographing what geologist call "erratics", rocks that have been moved, some great distances, by glaciers that once covered North America. I am drawn to the idea in geology of "deep time", the immensity of non-human history that the rock represents, a vast amount of time before the existence of life, and also a time when animals and plants arose, evolved and died. To look at rock and its markings is an experience akin to reading ancient history.
